Rights Management
The rights management division of IOS is engaged in several activities that both support and add to its other service offerings. Amongst others, the services offered by this division include:
- Licensing and acquisition: IOS advises on the purchase/licensing of rights to various sports and entertainment properties from both a commercial and legal perspective and assists not only in identifying and acquiring these rights, but also in preparing the requisite legal documentation relating to the same. Amongst others, we have advised on the acquisition of rights for several boxing matches, squash tournaments, football games and cricket related properties. In addition, we have also advised on and are currently advising on the acquisition of certain digital rights and have taken responsibility for both the commercial negotiation and the legal negotiation of the legal contracts.
- Creation: In addition to advising on the acquisition and protection of intellectual property rights, IOS advises its clients on the most effective means of conceptualizing, creating and registering new intellectual property, including by means of filing for trademark recognition, copyrights etc.
- Protection: Perhaps the most significant concern in the global sports & entertainment management business today, this vertical of the rights management division deals with enforcing contractual and equitable rights available to our clients against third parties that seek to impinge on these rights and by so doing, dilute the return on investment for our clients. This vertical also advises on the manner in which contracts and activations should be structured to ensure the minimum leakage of return on investment through intellectual property breach and theft.
